I heart technology
June 23, 2008
Right now I’m sitting in my car in the parking lot of a large hotel. Why? Well, my modem decided to be extremely difficult for me to use. First of all, it would not work on my Mac because the cord was incompatible or something. Of course, I left most of that stuff in my apartment in Toronto. Secondly, I thought I’d use my outdated Dell to have my online critique with Alex and Steve, but Skype was not possible because of a lack of webcam or microphone with the right attachment for the PC. I had a brilliant idea last night at about 7pm to hook one of my MiniDV cameras up to the PC and use that instead…again, I didn’t bring the right firewire cord. In fact, the one I need is in my kitchen, second drawer from the top. I ran to London Drugs to get a 4-pin to 4-pin cord, as it was Sunday evening and nothing else was open, and it was thirty dollars. So, being the broke student/starving artist that I am, I did not buy it. The sales associate had a brilliant idea though: buy the cord and return it the next day. Smartest thing I’d heard all day. Knowing myself, I knew I wouldn’t return it because I’d probably forget about it, so I did not buy it. Which brings me back to the internet at home on the fritz today. Good thing I didn’t roll out of bed for my 9am meeting at 8:59 to find a non-existent connection. So as I sit here and wait for Alex to come online, all I can do is think of all the ways technology has made my life better overall, but its the little things that go wrong that can really screw you over.
